Gardai in Limerick have warned this week that if they have evidence to
believe that a taxi driver is ferrying drugs, they will stop him and search
his car.
Speaking to the Limerick Post, taxi drivers said that it is ‘common enough’
for passengers to use taxis to collect and distribute drugs in Limerick.
Detective Sergeant John Healan of the drugs squad has advised drivers ‘who
have any concerns’ not to take the fare and to contact the gardai. The
drivers say they are ‘completely vulnerable’ to revenge attacks from drug
dealers in such situations, and insist that they cannot refuse a fare simply
because they think their passenger may be doing something illegal.
